Frequently Asked Questions
How do I mix the syrup?
To prepare the slush mix, combine 1 part syrup with 4 parts water. Pre-mix thoroughly in a suitable container before pouring into the slush machine.
Mix ratio: 1:4 — one part syrup to four parts water.
How much alcohol do I add?
Usually add 700ml – 1000ml of alcohol per full bowl of slush mix in the machine. A standard slush machine bowl will hold approximately 10–15 litres of frozen slush.
Avoid adding too much alcohol, as excessive alcohol content can prevent the slush from freezing properly.
All flavours can be use with or without alcohol.
How Long Does a Slushie Machine Take to Freeze?
A slushie machine typically takes around 45 minutes to 2 hours to be ready to serve.
The exact time depends on a few factors:
- Temperature of the mix (cold water and pre-chilled alcohol = faster freeze)
- Alcohol content (more alcohol = slower freezing)
- Room temperature (hot weather can extend freezing time)
- How full the bowl is (larger volume takes longer)
For best results, it’s recommended to:
- Pre-mix and chill the liquid if possible
- Set the machine up 1–2 hours before guests arrive
- Avoid overfilling or adding too much alcohol so it freezes properly
Once it reaches the right consistency, it will stay frozen and ready to serve continuously.
Do your syrups work in home slushie machine like the Ninja?
Yes — our cocktail and slushie syrups are perfectly suited for both commercial slushie machines and popular home machines like the Ninja Slushi.
They’re easy to mix, freeze consistently, and deliver vibrant flavour and colour for frozen cocktails, mocktails, and kids’ slushies at home or for parties. Our syrups are designed to achieve the right balance of sweetness and consistency to help your machine produce smooth frozen drinks without issues.
Perfect for:
- Frozen cocktails
- Non-alcoholic slushies
- Kids’ party drinks
- Home entertaining
- BBQs and summer parties
Simply dilute the syrup as directed, pour into your machine, and let it freeze.
What if I don't have a slushie machine? Can I still use the mix?
Absolutely. The syrup is a concentrate that mixes 1 part syrup to 4 parts liquid, so you can make drinks with no machine at all.
In a shaker or jug: use 60 ml of syrup per 300 ml glass, top up with cold water and plenty of ice, then shake or stir. Add a 30 ml nip of spirit if you want the cocktail version.
In a blender: blend the same mix with a couple of cups of ice for an instant frozen slushie.
Every flavour works with or without alcohol. The mix calculator further down this page gives you exact amounts for any number of drinks.
What is Brix and why is it important?
Brix (°Bx) is a measurement of how much sugar is dissolved in a liquid.
In simple terms:
- 1° Brix = 1 gram of sugar per 100 grams of liquid
- So the higher the Brix, the sweeter and denser the liquid is
Why it matters for slushie machines
Slush machines rely on the correct Brix level to freeze properly. Sugar (and alcohol) both affect freezing.
- Too low Brix (not enough sugar): mixture can freeze too hard or form ice blocks
- Too high Brix (too much sugar): mixture may not freeze properly and stay too runny
- Correct Brix range: usually around 12–17° Brix for standard slush syrup mixes
In practical terms
For most pre-made slush syrups (like yours mixed at 1:4 syrup to water), the Brix level is already designed to be in the ideal range for machines.
If alcohol is added, it lowers the freezing point, which is why you have to keep alcohol amounts moderate.
How much syrup do I need?
Add the syrup first, then the water and spirit, and stir before you start the machine. Leave a little room at the top - the mix expands as it freezes. Every flavour works just as well with no alcohol at all.
